Meet the TEAMS!

Day 1- Creating Resourceful States
Today was filled with enormous growth. Ambassadors and Alumni refined their current skills and strengthened their belief and knowing that- The first step to leadership is self leadership. They learned even more about perception, dealing with insecurities and were encouraged to step out of their comfort zone. Marlon Smith spoke about overcoming fear and how COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO UNITY. Kathy Buckley, a hearing-impaired comedian showed us how she uses humor to face life struggles. The board breaking activities main focus was that everyone has to get past their FEARS in order to get to their GOALS.

Day 2 - Building and Shaping Identities
Ambassadors started their day with Team Olympics. As a group teams were awarded points based on leadership skills, fun, creativity, flexibility and team work. Teams were encouraged to work together to achieve common goals. Shore Slocum spoke about the importance of health and nutrition. Everyone spent the afternoon engaging in outdoor team building activities. After dinner, Gary King spoke about the POWER OF TRUTH and challenged everyone to a 24 HOUR TRUTH CHALLENGE. The evening ended with Marlon discussing with the Ambassadors the different leadership styles and they then participated in an interactive leadership game.

Day 3- Power of Personal Leadership
There were more Team Olympic tasks first thing in the morning. Marlon Smith asked everyone to answer “How do we create a community of UNITY”. Felix Lin challenged everyone to a Humor Exercise. Many of the Ambassadors lives have been transformed because of Gary Kings’ recap on the 24 HOUR TRUTH CHALLENEGE and how to believe in the power of FORGIVENESS and HONESTY. The Ambassadors spent the evening creating 5 minute skits on stage dealing with real life situations that teens face daily and offered solutions to each situation.

Day 4 - Contribution and Graduation Day
The morning began with the final challenge of Team Olympics. Then, the Ambassadors were given the opportunity to give back to the community by planting trees on campus as a team. The gesture of giving back had a significant impact on everyone. They all had feelings of unity, growth, love, opportunity and purpose. As the trees grow not only will it become a resource for others but it is a symbol of hope for all who planted them and for the future generations. After lunch everyone engaged in the writing a “Letter to Self” exercise and discussed its significance. The night was filled with excitement because today was Graduation Day. The 2008 Global Youth Leadership Summit ended with a grand Ball filled with food, music, dancing and lots of hugs.
